The Shelter

Don't let pesky bugs ruin your night. No-See-Um netting keeps out the smallest critters while the silpoly tub-floor blocks moisture from below.

  • Dual front and side entry
  • Tapered width and height for efficiency.
  • ~5" deep tub-floor.
  • 4 Interior stash pockets on front door.
  • Hang loop/clip at front apex.
  • Note: The magnetic door ties have been retired. Door ties are now elastic with toggles.

New fabric option - The floor is now available in a 20D Ripstop Polyester with a Sil/PU coating. The PU coating on the inner face significantly improves puncture resistance and reduces slipperiness over the lighter 20D silpoly option (Sil/Sil coating) and our previously available 40D fabric.

Available in two lengths - The longer option provides an additional 6" (15cm) of length at the foot end. Please note that the additional length does not affect head or elbow room. The longer Bug Shelter will work with either length of our Cirriform Tarp, but will pair a little better with the longer Cirriform.

Made in the USA from imported fabric.

Pitching Instructions

Pitching the Bug Shelter is quick and easy. Download our guide and look through the rigging information below to get started.

Rigging

Your Bug Shelter comes with the following rigging included. Use this rigging to connect the apexes of your Bug Shelter to your tarp (see instructions below). You'll also need four tent stakes to secure the bottom corners (). Or, see below for an alterative.

  • 3/32" Shockcord: 50" | 127cm
  • Mitten hooks: 2
  • Mini Barrel cord locks: 2

Alternatively, if you'd like to forgo the tent stakes, you can connect the floor's corners to your tarp's stakes. This works well with the 1P Cirriform tarp and other smaller tarps. Suitability diminishes with larger tarps. For this approach, you'll need to install the following items which are available separately. Instructions are at the bottom of this page.

  • (30" per corner should be enough for most smaller tarps, including the 1P Cirriform)

If you want to pitch the Bug Shelter by itself (without a tarp), you'll want two additional stakes (6 total) and some guyline for the apexes. 84" for the front and 72" for the foot should be plenty.

Installing the rigging at the Apexes

This rigging will be used to connect your Bug Shelter to your tarp. Using 20" at the head end and 30" at the foot is usually a good start, though it may depend on your particular setup. You can trim excess cord after you have everything dialed in.

  • Note: You will do the following twice; once for each end of the net-tent.
  • At one end of the 3/32" shock cord, tie on a mitten hook. We suggest a .
  • Thread the cord through the webbing loop at the net-tent's apexes (front to back at the head end, and back to front at the foot end).
  • Tie a loop on the loose end of the cord. We suggest a simple .

Installing tensionlocks at corners

If you'd like to install tensionlocks (10mm size) at the floor's corners, follow these steps. Note that some Bug Shelters may have elastic loops at the corners instead of the webbing shown.

  • Tie a mitten hook to the end of each cord. We like to use a .
  • Using a , install a tensioner on the tie-out loop at each of the tub's corners.
  • Thread the untied end of the shockcord through the tensioner as shown (first through the middle opening from bottom to top, then through the remaining hole from top to bottom).
  • Tie a loop in the untied end of the cord. We like like to use an .
  • Repeat at each corner
